The NBA offseason is here and this is a great time to analyze the direction for many NBA teams and of course tie it into helping your business. Let’s begin with the Los Angeles Clippers–a team filled with talent. They have made the playoffs six years straight. However, they’ve never won the title—in fact, they have never even made the conference finals. Each season, they go into the year with high expectations and come out with a devastating playoff loss. Before we get into it, did you know the Los Angeles Clippers originated in Buffalo, NY as the Buffalo Braves and then moved to San Diego where they took on the name of Clippers–finally ending up as the Los Angeles Clippers.
While the Clippers have been successful, they have not adapted to the way the game is played today. The NBA has become more of a guard-driven league. Blake Griffin and Deondre Jordan are great players, but besides Chris Paul, the Clippers’ guards are far from spectacular. When you see teams, such as the Warriors, play small ball and dominate with the three-pointer—the Clippers cannot compete with that. The team has not made the necessary roster changes to compete with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors.
Are there steps you need to take to adapt to changes in your industry? If you do not adapt to the changes being made around you, you can still enjoy some success, but you will not achieve your full potential.
After losing to the Utah Jazz in the first round of the playoffs this season, the Clippers have to make some changes. With Chris Paul and Blake Griffin set to become free agents, it will be interesting to see which direction the team goes. Will the Clippers try to change things up and adapt to the new NBA? Or will they stick with their current playing style? These are critical decisions the leaders need to make.
The business world is constantly changing. For example, just a few years ago, digital technology wasn’t as dominant as it is today. Now, it is very important to be active on social media. In order to keep up with the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers of the business world, it is important to adjust your business practices, too.
